my friend out here hit 24kt on his F4 foil and John Heineken is hitting 28kt on a Mike's Lab foil (he's a world champion kite foil racer)

Wow 50 kph that's super quick. I can hold 35 kph but got to 38kph and detonated on an Axis 900. The wind foil wings are the go , won't be long before we see the serious wing dingers using these . I'd Iike to try the Starboard wing foil 1000 on a ding . Just a bloody expensive foil to cut & modify to suit track mounts . Also have to cut front of fuse and move front wing back . Happy to do it if someone has one to let me test it out .

Yeah the gt starboard foil is the go it has a 75 fuselage the 1000 fits straight on and the 800 is the speed wing for it and just use the top plate adapter the gt fuselage is 20 cm shorter than the gtr

Are these speeds on flat water or with the help of waves/ swell?

Sweet didn't know that , I know a couple of crew who have those might be time to buddy up . Warwick Kai Lennys run was in the ocean running across the swell . At that speed you are travelling faster than the swell so yes you do get assist from the swell but you are basically bunny hopping over the swells in front . Straight line downwind Wingding is what will win races but it's incredibly hard and the crashes are super high impact . I'm slowing getting better at it so are the rest of my local crew. The is the best testing ground for wing at R&D and that's why you are seeing more and more super high aspect wings like the windfoil wings finding there way under wingding boards , because when you get into the mid to high 30's std wings just blow out not just breaching but push out to the side or basically spin out , horrible crash

Bobo is hitting 29 mph during his downwinders with Daytona kite foil.

That's a pretty specialized wind wing or "kite wing" he's using -- boom system and little to no front strut to avoid wind resistance. The speeds he is reaching are pretty extreme by today's standards but I suspect will be common place in a couple of years as equipment is developed to pursue maximum speed.

in Kai's YouTube video he first goes out on his WASP... I can't remember the speed difference but I think it was a 2-3 mph or so.

My friend Jean has been using his F4 windsurfing race foil in his Mikes Lab ML70 formula kiteboard, with a Slingwing to get to 24kt peak. He said he thought he was going faster and was a little bummed when he saw it was only 24kt.

John Heineken I think is using one of the Mikes Lab kite race foils in a DIY board w/ Ozone WASP and reportedly hit 28kt.

I am awaiting some good wind, but gave it a few good cracks a month or so ago.

My best recorded GPS peak is 41.3kmh, but it's more the speeds you can hold. This is a speed run of 500m that I extracted from my speed session that contained my best top speed.

Here is some of the splits fron that actual run. 40.9kmh held for 5 seconds and 39.8kmh held for 10sec is pretty quick.

Here is some split stats from the entire days riding. The wind was super gusty westerly, so only short runs.

I am super keen to crack 45 kmh which is totally achievable on the gear I am riding, just need conditions. I also have a secret weapon to go for 50kmh. But need to work my way up there.

For these runs I was riding the Naish Hover 110 CU with Jet 1240HA/310HA/75cm with the Wing-Surfer 5.3m

Watch this space!!! Bring on the speed.

Ride safe, (BTW, yes it hurts crashing).

Hey JB,
What are you recording the speeds on , and how accurate is it.I know the windsurf guys up here use some special sailing speed watch ( sorry can't remember the name but it's not apple or garmin) and it is built just for that purpose.

The windsurf speed guys use the Locosys GT31 or the GW60 watch for ultimate accuracy. The watch is crap though, don't buy one.
My Suunto Ambit 3 watch also gives accurate speeds and you can upload your tracks to Google Earth which is pretty cool.

A couple of race windfoilers locally have hit 32 knots (59 kmh) on flat water with big cambered race sails.
We get peaks of just over 24 knots (45 kmh) in the ocean with our small 65cm (840 cm2) surf wings and regular windsurf wave sails.
Easy (and fun) to sustain 20 knots downwind s-turning on swells and about 18 knots upwind.

I reckon in strong winds wingers will match surf windfoiler's speeds in the ocean as then you have enough wind power to use smaller foil wings.
I'm talking regular dudes, not Kai etc.

Ok thanks for the info azimuth, yeh the local windsurfers here are trying to get to 30 knots most times , The best they've done is also 32.

Update 37 kns is their 2 sec peak and 35 kns over 10 sec, They are using gear for speed sailing.

For easier viewing here is the KAI video on Youtube.

Note: He hits 30 mph ~ 48 kmh. He is using a "Kitewing"

This Kitewing has a noticeably smaller leading edge vs. the inflatable wingdings. Having exploded my WingDing in the first 4 sessions with a foil strike (inverted board wing flew downwind into rig) I am seeing the benefit of a solid skeleton for the wings for durability and speed.

Not even close to Kai's speeds or even JB's, but still a pb for me today on the good old takuma 1300. It doesn't feel like there's much more left in it though. Need something smaller to get to the next level.

This is my PB (Recorded) so far. This is on the lake. Super gusty westerly around 15-35kn on a 3.6m Wing-Surfer and the Hover 110 with 810/280/75cm foil. I am ready to go faster.

Given how crap this wind was, I know we have a lot more in the kitty to give even just on production gear. I am 6'2" and 90kgs, so far from aerodynamic, and I ride big board. Yes it hurts crashing at this speed. I wear a helmet and impact vest and it still slaps you harder than I every remember from windsurfing (maybe I am just older now). Must be the foil height and slingshot you get breeching at over 40kmh.

So 46kmh is 28.6mph and 24.8kn. My next goal is 50kmh. Just waiting for the right conditions.

I have no doubt that wings will end up the fastest thing on the water soon.

Regards,

JB

Nice JB.
I see that the naish 810 is a kite foil. Do you reckon the racing kite foils would work?
I can't see wing foils being the fastest on the water though. There just seems to be too many forces wanting to move in too many directions all the time with nothing solid to lock them together to go really fast or maybe that's just me.

I wish I had some kind of GPS speed recording from yesterday when I was maxed out with the tiny 2.8 Wing in 35 knots of wind.. It was scary fast foiling.. There was lots of waa-hoo's being yelled..
