Agree with everything you say Mahanumah - except the not voting comment. Everyone's right to vote has been, historically, a hard-won issue and in my humble opinion should not be frittered away, even if you don't like any of 'em.
And Mick, sure there have been stuff-ups by the Vic government - but the virus has escaped quarantine in NSW, Qld, SA, WA and now the UK variant is also out in NZ. Do we blame Dan for all of this?

In short no, given the figures and the extreme measures out of desperation, it's hard not to hold his government to account. It's easy for those such as government workers who are still working or receiving their pay packets but for those who have lost their homes or businesses there is no reconciling.

Mick

You have a lot to account for starting this thread.

Are they Sky News Screen shots you are posting ?

I haven't lost my house, I am a tourism operator in winter and summer seasons and do not hold anyone or any government accountable.

It's a ****ty situation no matter which way you look at it and let's hope that it only gets better.

The ****y ****ing censorship bot on this site is cool

Ahhh.... I was hoping that the "Don't vote... It only encourages them" statement would be taken in the lighthearted context it was intended.

I agree wholeheartedly that the right to vote (and Australia's compulsory voting system) is vitally important and a great way to ensure we don't see the farce that happens in the USA with voter deregistering, court challenges and even the Orange one claiming he won.

As a Victorian, I think the Vic Government did a pretty good job up until this latest escape... this one just shows that somewhere in the process there's people who haven't learned from the previous mistakes. But at the same time I still think Dan Andrews and his team have done a far better job than we would ever see from Michael O'Brien. That guy couldn't organise a root in a brothel...

I totally agree with the above (as edited)!

If Michael O'Brien had been in charge we would have had a UK situation here.

I keep reading this thread and then wish i hadn't
Ask the families of the 800+ people who died in Vic their thoughts on how Vic has handled lockdown and at the very least exhibit some empathy for those families or even Vics. who's relatives passed during that time and only 10 people could attend the funeral etc. etc. etc.
Compare Vic to other Australian states, rather than Overseas. The other states have a mixture of different political parties and exponentially more success in handling Covid than Vic..........
I can tell you first hand that regarding contact tracing at the height of Vics Covid deaths, the Government was stating that they had enough contact traces early on, when in fact they were scrambling behind the scenes to get more contact tracers.
In the end people have different opinions, which we may not relate to or understand, but empathy to people who are facing extremely difficult times during this period is surely the least we could do and correct me if i'm wrong but i'm not feeling the empathy in this thread?
Happy supping folks and supping videos from other states, sharing the stoke would be much appreciated

Your on the money SupChickadee,
I feel where you are coming from, there's personal levels of stuff that's not going to make the stats pages or the media. So much of society's procedures and mechanisms crashed or were disjointedly slow to access .
For some reality, try Being a executor for someone who passed away interstate whilst your in Vic isolation , then another quarantine, then a biosecurity zone, trying to access the legal process in a timely manner was a nightmare. Try finding a young JP .
Then there is medical , where interstate surgeons flying in canceled 4 times due to outbreak uncertainties. Hopefully will get done this Friday . And we won't get a 3rd quarantine going back to work.

The good news is that we got to paddle MangoDingo's Creek and Green machine Search in Darwin, surf some waves with the local Sup crew then paddle down in SA in the same week.

The not so good observations on the drive from Darwin to Adelaide was the vibe of the remote reststop businesses, a few have shut, others are obviously seriously struggling. The towns also .That knock on effect at a distance. Spare a thought for those without UbaEats.

As for the Vic Governments handling of things, they are hands on giving it a go. Its whole new ball game. Catch up is hard to get right.
If you know any people in other States who work in their frontline services I'm sure they will tell you that their departments are packing it and constantly updating their policies and procedures . And trying to recruit and train people for future roles

As for State and federal politics and voting ??,
This seems like a year of getting back to basics ??
How about for the next 3-4 elections we bring it back to pure and simple ... 1 bloke = 1 vote ,
ditch the whole preferential mystery of whos fingers up whose bum.

And pretty please, finish your Vic lockdown in the next fortnight so we can come do LSR rehab down the surf coast

Funny that you hold me accountable for a thread yet you don't want to hold the state government accountable for the deaths of hundreds and the loss of businesses, homes and mental anguish.

No not from sky news, the statistics came from my local mp and the earlier shot of info regarding how incredibly infectious the uk strain is not was from the Australian. Now that we're free again, which has to be a miracle considering the ferocity of this virus we can get back to surfing, ??

You asked for people to correct you if your wrong, I feel you maybe. The fact that everyone who has contributed to this thread regardless of their opinions, have bothered to contribute, demonstrates their concern for the general population personally, emotionally, health wise and economically, shows empathy. Discussion and giving people an opportunity to express and hear others opinions, even if they clash with their own is a good thing. It is only when people get personal does it become unhealthy.

We're out, but Mick is fully right in posting his opinions.
Don't look if you don't want to read.
My opinion of Dan would probably not be helpful here.
But don't tell us ****ing well done for some thing we had no choice in.

At the end of the day, hotels are not designed for infection control. Infections can and do enter and escape from hospitals, environments that are designed to prevent this. So it's really not surprising that it's escaping hotels.

Agree totally hence the below which is a quote from my first comment on this page:

"Who came up with the idea to stick a bunch of potential positive cases into a building that has no opening windows and a corridor that doesn't have proper airflow (like every damn hotel I've ever stayed in...)? And then you add local staff who enter and leave the building daily and go back to their families. It's an outbreak waiting to happen.

A better option would be to utilise the Motels around the regional areas.. Each room opens onto an outdoor area... No ducted heating or cooling... Get security and all the attendant staff you need to stay locally on swings similar to FIFO (Say 3 weeks on, 2 weeks isolation, 3 weeks off). Get it out of the cities and give the regions an income boost.

This is the model that's working well in NT..."

Again, don't tell me I did the right thing when I had no choice over what I did.
We Victorians have not made "A tremendouus effort"
We have been treated ike criminals for leaving our homes.
My opinion of Dan may be seeping out.................
