Hi Guys , This is my first time writing in , I have now gone on the other side from long boarding to sup surfing which I enjoy , I am looking at getting a starboard wedge 8' 7'' or 9' 2'' to improve my sup surfing , I have a nalu 10' 6'' which I like using it for surfing and fittest , but as I am improving my sup surfing would like a board easier to turn and do snaps , The waves in my area are mostly small around 1 - 3 ft , my weight is 70 kg , would I notice much difference between the wedge 9' 2'' and my nalu 10' 6'' or am I better getting the smaller wedge 8' 7'' I don,t want to get another board that is much the same .

I also started on a 10-6 Nalu, first few times, then got a 143L board with dims somewhat similar to the 8-7 Wedge model. I was 85 kg at time + 5/4 mm suit. That was shaky but doable by end of my first session out. For you at 70 kg, I think you'll want something smaller than the 8-7.

Thanks for your reply Kisutch ,
I am 66 yrs old , didn,t want to go to small , will the wedge 9' 2'' be similar to my nalu 10' 6'' , I don,t want 2 similar boards , that why I am thinking to get 8' 7'' wedge our waves are sometimes mushy
cheers

Im 40 so maybe not best to advise based on experience.
I haven't surfed the Wedge but it has a roughly similar outline to the 143L board I was on. I found the more curved outline a lot easier to turn than the Nalu, I think you'll find them very different. If I understand correct the smallest Wedge, 8-7, is 32 wide and 143L, I'd think that would be really stable for you.
Nalu caught waves better
good luck

Hi, I've got the 2021 8'7 wedge. I'm 6'2 85/90kg with thick wetsuit. All I can say is that it is the perfect board for me at the moment with where I surf and the standard I am at. Beach break 4-6 ft with mostly windy/choppy days. The board has really helped my surfing progress. I cannot really fault the board at the moment. Hope this helps.

Thanks Napnap , seems like the 8' 7'' wedge would be a better choice to improve on

If you don't already know or have read it, I was told to put my on the rail rail as you transition to bottom turn amd then again to cutback, snap etc. This is in attition to moving foot back for turns.

Here's another short clip. The Wedge is such an easy board to surf IMO.
