TassieSUP "Winter" Classic 2020

The Winter Classic kicked off with free surf Friday, Dave & Hamish scored a shed full of empty clean head high pre comp waves at Roaring Beach. Saturday wasn't looking quite so good with not even a ripple at Pirates Bay, so the call was made to move the surfing to the home of SUP/The SUPer Bank/Carlton River as it was looking like the only option for any sort of contestable wave. Entrants were greeted with an ordinary waist high wave, but the as the day went on the and the heats were surfed it grew to a clean chest high wave with rides over 150m in length giving SUPers plenty of opportunity to impress the judges. It was very hard to seperate the scores with some very close surfing and everyone getting plenty of waves with it coming down to the wire with many split decisions deciding the winners.
James Davies took the triple crown taking out the Open, 0/40 & 10' divisions.
Sunday saw Mick Hawes take out the tech race at pirates bay, with the marathon canceled due to adverse conditions.
Big thanks to the beach crew and also Lufra Hotel & Appartments for their hospitality.

A small, but keen crew turned up for Sunday's 1st paddle of the season with many been put off by the snowy conditions. After a miss calculation of the tide meant needing to walk 1/2 way to Midway Point before we found some deep water and then headed off on a very sunny 9k paddle with some wind assistance and only the last 1k requiring any real effort and forcing Mick & Geoff into the walk of shame. Tony elected to "wing it" and looked like using the oyster racks as a slalom course, but somehow managed to stay out of trouble this time. Next flatwater paddle October 25 + maybe a bonus paddle before then.

Summer Surf Series

R1 kicked off today at Little Canada in some of the best conditions seen at a Summer Series. Newcomers Dave B & Hamish R showed the old guard a thing or 2 and pushed each other all the way, but at the end of the day there was very little to separate the surfers with several tied scores. Big thanks to judges, Roz our photographer and our new series sponsor SMIK.

SMIK Summer Surf Series

R2 ran once again at Little Canada with plenty of overhead closeouts on offer to test the endurance of the crew, but there were also a few diamonds for those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. The SUPers that stayed on for a free surf after it was all over managed to get the best of the waves as the tide dropped, but too late to add to their scores. Big thanks to SMIK the series sponsor and judges, especially Chris W.
R3 will run on 14/2 and 31/1 is our next flatwater paddle.

There's still time to enter the series and every SUPer wins a prize. Thanks to our sponsors SMIK & also Mikie @ Australian SUP Life we have a warehouse of gear to give away, maybe not a warehouse, but we will need a bigger box for it all, t shirts, leggies, caps, mugs, photo annuals and more !

Sumer Surf Series R3
The SUPer Bank turned on some waist waves this morning and the big crew that turned up didn't waist anytime tearing them apart. Matt, Geoff and Dave all with new boards seemed to have the edge over the others and it showed in results at the end of the day. Big thanks to our sponsors SMIK, Australian SUP Life, judges and Roz for the pics. Don't miss R4 March 14 as everyone will take home some merch and will be in the running to take out the series.

Summer Surf Series Final

Sunday saw this seasons Club Champions decided at the Mecca Bowl in much better conditions than originally forecast. There wasn't much in it, but with some aggressive surfing from Dave Banks he was able to grab a win in the 1st heat and back it up with a 2nd in heat 2 to edge in front of Mat & Hamish who finished equal 2nd giving Dave the Open Championship, with Tony Leitch once again taking out the 0/75 Championship. This season we were blessed with better conditions than last and along with some friendly regular competition may have had an influence on why everyone has improved their Surfing. Big thanks to sponsors SMIK, Australian SUP Life, judges and photographer Roz.
10-12 of September sees the TassieSUP Winter Classic.

Sponsor Opportunities TassieSUP Winter Classic + Australian Cold Water SUP Championship 2021

Hi there fellow SUPers & supporters, it's time to start thinking about the The 10th Annual TassieSUP Winter Classic + Australian Cold Water SUP Championship running in September and we are looking for some sponsors. We can offer unprecedented exposure in the SUP community to our supporters as well as the knowledge that your support will be shared equally to all entrants whether they come 1st or much further down the rankings ladder and in return their support of your business, both in the past and future. If you, your business or you know of an organisation that can spare some merchandise for the crew or even cash to cover some of the event costs who may be interested please get in touch.

TassieSUP Winter Classic
We have had a fantastic response to our call for sponsors and a big thanks to you all, we know what a tough year it has been for you. The SUP crew will of course do their best to return the support as our preferred suppliers. There has been no shortage of gear supplied to fill the traditional "TassieSUP Show Bag" that all entrants will take home as well as cash to help stage the event and keep the club in a good financial position moving forward.

TassieSUP Winter Classic 2021

Free surf Friday saw the surf starved Tamar SUP crew using every bit of the clean afternoon conditions at Eagle Hawk Neck surfing to almost dark for a much needed warm up. Saturday brought the forecast of improved swell and wind, but it never eventuated, however there was no shortage of contestable surf, with many catching well in excess of 10 waves per heat to keep the judges on their toes. Big thanks to beach manager Mick Hawes supported by the Davies girls who kept things running smoothly and us finished just as the rain hit.
A good night was enjoyed by all at the Lufra, but not to big in anticipation of Sunday's Surf Race. Sunday brought perfect conditions for the race, with just a small bump rolling in to make things interesting. After the "rules" were explained to many of the new comers to the racing scene we were off and it became a no holes barred tussle to the finish.

Huge thanks to all the great sponsors.

Thanks jaw, don't know what the secret formula is, but we all have fun. Had a guy this weekend that had been SUPing for a couple of months and paddles out in his 1st ever comp, got called into a couple of waves and was frothing.
